Equi-Ice user Almandin wins Melbourne Cup!

Almandin, along with many other horses in the Team Williams stables, has been part of the pre-release trials of Equi-Ice over the last 12 months.  So it goes without saying that we were delighted to see this magnificent horse run an incredible race to edge out Heartbreak City and take the title of winner of the 2016 Melbourne Cup.

Almandin is a lightly-raced seven-year–old gelding who is trained by Robert Hickmott, and owned by Lloyd Williams.  The horse had a few setbacks over his career with a tendon issue just over 12 months ago, but, with Equi-Ice creator Physio Tom on the case, alongside a dedicated team of specialists working under Hickmott’s instruction to care for the horse, he has gone from strength to strength.

Recovery is key for any elite athlete and the dedicated staff at Macedon Lodge have ensured that Equi-Ice has been an important part of the preparation and recovery for Almandin. Following strenuous exercise and/or recovery in the days following race day Equi-Ice has been an integral part of the management program used for this galloped and the results speak for themselves.

Our thanks go to Team Williams for their support of Equi-Ice, and appreciation of the key role equine physiotherapy and icing techniques play in optimising horse performance and recovery.
